Secker and Warburg, 1959
A beautiful and heart breaking story of the friendship between two high school boys.
Jealous of his best friend's natural athletic ability and engaging personality, Gene causes an accident that leads to tragedy.
A metaphor for WWII and its tragic consequences for a generation.
I was first introduced to A Separate Peace in high school and it made a lasting impression on me. Recently, I found a copy at a charity booksale; it was like reconnecting with an old friend. I reread it and, some of the details having faded away over the years, was again gripped by the action and touched by the tragedy.
