America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie

Updated: Jun 27, 2019

William Morrow Paperbacks, March 2016

Thomas Jefferson’s daughter gives the reader her perspective in this historical fiction novel-turned-soap opera (including some cheesy romantic moments), which almost reads itself.  The cruelty of slavery, poor treatment of women, general immorality and injustice are presented as an integral, and almost banal part of everyday life. I don't regret reading it.
