An Accidental Man by Iris Murdoch

Updated: Jul 1, 2019

Chatto & Windus, 1971

Comparing Murdoch with Lessing...

Scenes which made me think of Doris Lessing:

-Mrs. Carberry vs retarded son in The Fifth Child

-Charlotte vs short story about elderly aunt who always helped everyone and knew no one cared about her

-Gracie & tree vs short story about boy who made love with a tree all the time

-Matthew/Mavis vs Mark/Martha

Both authors were born in 1919.

Good reading.

Many characters vs fewer characters but more developed, especially Lessing herself.

Existential vs more alive (I prefer Lessing)
