The only reason I'm including this book, which I didn't finish, is to note an experience of the author's which gave me food for thought. He can't stand his self-centered, difficult, high-maintenance mother, in spite of their tight if dysfunctional bond, but feels very close to his stepfather, who is more loving. For him, it's love that counts, not bloodlines. He wants to stress that his real father is his stepfather and not his biological father. With divorce so common and mixed families still on the rise, this topic is more important than it may appear.
Author Luc Lang teaches Esthetics and Philosophy at Claire's art school. She read the book for his class and recommended it to me as an example of one type of memoir writing.
Mother is not available in English.
