The Scapegoat by Daphne Du Maurier

Updated: Feb 18, 2020

First published 1957, Victor Gollancz Ltd

This thriller is a story of stolen identity between an Englishman and Frenchman, John and Jean. Eerily good reading.

Some editions include short stories such as The Birds, which Hitchcock adapted into the film by the same name. Du Maurier’s version is more terrifying. You can feel the birds pecking to kill at your windows and door! And they do more damage than in the film.
