Hard to get into, didn’t really like, shallow feeling. Same for On the Road by Kerouac, Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel (hard to follow, not shallow) and Black Water by Joyce Carol Oates (not well-written).
However, could be partly due to my "Can't Read" period caused by stress and anxiety, hard to read and concentrate. (I'm thinking this may apply to Wolf Hall since by bookclub colleagues adored it and I didn't, although I loved the BBC series.)
I agree Vile Bodies was pretty superficial and Black Water wasn't that well written. However On the Road was just a testosterone filled celebration of men's divine right to be sh*tty to women in the name of art. And yes, you should give Wolf Hall another chance!
