French title: Et j'ai cessé de t'appeler papa
2022, Editions Jean-Claude Lattès
This book is by the daughter of a French woman, Gisèle Pelicot, who was drugged by her husband for many years so he could abuse her sexually, and let many other men do the same, while she was unconscious.
Pelicot courageously insisted on a public trial, saying she wanted to "make sure it was the perpetrators – not the victims – who carried the shame." (full article here)
Gisèle's daughter, Caroline, wrote about the family trauma caused by this event, and about her own fear that her father, a family man who had always seemed loving and caring, may have abused her as well.
Gisèle's husband is now in prison, and 50 other men have been convicted.
Pelicot says, "Victims should never be ashamed of what was forced upon them." (full article here)
From the #MeToo movement, to Gisèle, to Epstein survivors, victims are standing up and coming out of hiding, in the hopes of getting justice and making a better future for others.
