When Jenny Diski was a teenager with nowhere to go, she was taken in by Doris Lessing. Years later and terminally ill with cancer at the time of this writing, Diski describes their difficult relationship and talks about her illness.

The girl character in Lessing’s book Memoirs of a Survivor was based on Diski.
